Colin Campbell House, Plymouth under threat of demolition

by

Plymouth City Council has released a £40m plan to redevelop Colin Campbell Court in Plymouth, including the demolition of Colin Campbell House. It was built as a car showroom in 1938-9, and in recent times has been both a Mothercare and a Habitat store. Surviving both the Blitz and the subsequent rebuilding of the city, it is a rare Art Deco gem in Plymouth – comparable with Tinside Lido on Plymouth Hoe (listed Grade II*).

We are in contact with the C20 caseworkers, as the demolition of this fine building would be a loss to the city.

C20 Conservation Adviser Tess Pinto said, ‘Colin Campbell House is a well-loved landmark in Plymouth. The façade in particular is extremely well preserved, and we believe that the building has tremendous potential to be adapted sympathetically for community or residential use.’
