Walking tour: Glasgow city centre and the Burrell Collection
We are pleased to announce the first event organised by the new Scottish C20 Society group. We are keen to get activity up and running so have arranged a walking tour of Glasgow on Saturday 9 August.
We will meet in the city centre to view a number of C20 buildings on foot – likely to include: Glasgow College of Building and Printing; former BOAC offices; Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In the afternoon we will take the train to the south side of Glasgow to have a guided tour of the Burrell Collection (Gasson, Meunier and Andresen: 1978-83) which was awarded A-listed status in 2013 by Historic Scotland.
The programme for the day will be informal and flexible. We will have a rough outline of interesting buildings in the city centre but participants are free to come and go as they please. The day will begin at around 11:30 and we should be finished by around 16:00. The exact timings for the Burrell Collection tour will be confirmed nearer the time. There are a number of choices for food in the city centre and there is also a café at the Burrell Collection.
We plan to meet at 11:00 for coffee in the Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Glasgow, G1 3NU. This is well placed for Central and Queen Street stations. We will meet in the Doocot Cafe Bar on level 5 of the building. Directions can be found here: http://www.thelighthouse.co.uk/about/contact
