Luxury apartment with two double bedrooms
Art deco style former WW2 bomber command tower in quiet location with stunning views
There can’t be many properties in Airbnb’s portfolio that boast a history as interesting as the Control Tower on the edge of the village of Tholthorpe, 13 miles north of York. It was a Bomber Command Control Tower in World War Two and a plaque at the entrance honours the four Canadian squadrons who were based here during the war, 420 Snowy Owl, 425 Alloette, 431 Iroquois and 434 Bluenose
After the war the airbase was closed, but some private flying took place during the 80s. The building then fell into dereliction but was converted into a family home 25 years ago, inspired by mid century modernist architecture and design. More recently it has been divided into 2 separate luxury living spaces with the one available for let including the whole of the 1st floor and balcony, plus a 2nd en -suite bedroom on the ground floor. There is also access to the roof and a lookout lounge to enjoy the views.
