Tour of Shrewsbury, 17th March

by

A unique opportunity to explore Bridge House, Condover. The building, designed by Mervyn Seal for his family, was listed recently. We will be guided by the architect who will tell us the fascinating history of its development, as well as a tour of the beautifully landscaped garden by its current owner. It is advisable to bring boots for outside, and we ask you to be prepared to take shoes off inside. We will have a coffee break at Bridge House, followed by a walk around 20th and 21st century Shrewsbury. The border town is so often only thought of as medieval, but we will show you otherwise! The tour of Shrewsbury will include a lunch break in another listed building, a trip into a cold war bunker in the heart of the town, as well as more architecture, design and sculpture reminding us that old towns have new life!

We will start at Bridge House at 10.30am so we can spend a good length of time there, but some lifts from Shrewsbury station can be arranged earlier. We will then drive into town for the rest of the trip. Numbers are limited by the visits to the private house, the bunker and lunch, so please book well in advance.

When booking please indicate whether you will need help with transport, or if you will be bringing a car. We need to arrange parking at Condover House, so we must have numbers beforehand.

Lunch is not included in price, and must be ordered in advance. We will be eating at 1:45pm, and will have a coffee and cake break earlier at Bridge House. Please indicate if you will be joining us for lunch when booking, and we will send menu out in advance to save time.

We will visit Shrewsbury Museum at 2.30pm. We plan to go inside a number of other buildings both before and after lunch.

To book a place on the trip please email c20westmidlands@gmail.com.

Payment in cash on the day. The cost is £5 for members of the Twentieth Century Society and £10 for non-members.

We look forward to seeing you there!
