Belgium: Poperinghe New Military Cemetery
Architect: Sir Reginald Blomfield
Owners: Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Location: Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen
Poperinghe New Military Cemetery had Sir Reginald Blomfield as Principal Architect and Noël Ackroyd Rew as Assistant Architect; it contains 677 graves. Nearby is the smaller Poperinghe Old Military Cemetery, also by Blomfield and Rew, with 444 graves. The town of Poperinghe (now Poperinge) was of great importance during the First World War because, although occasionally bombed or bombarded at long range, it was the nearest place to Ypres (now Ieper) which was both considerable in size and reasonably safe.
