Richly coloured and detailed, the mural combines figurative, abstract and symbolic motifs. It was created by the Turkish artist Gülsün Erbil – an estate resident – with community input in the wake of the Broadwater Farm riot of October 1985. As part of an attempt to address factors underlying the riot Haringey commissioned – with resident involvement – improvements which included community murals and landscaped gardens. Tangmere House was demolished, 2022-26, but the mural has been preserved for conservation and relocation within the estate.
