Caernarfonshire Technical College opened in September 1957 and in 1991 became Coleg Menai. Designed by  John Sam Williams, this engraved slate mural prominently depicts the tools required by the trades and subjects taught at the college and emphasises the historic importance of the north-west Wales slate industry to Bangor. The college located to a new site in 2024 and a campaign by C20 Cymru helped to ensure that the mural was not lost but relocated to the new campus.
