ManModSoc photography exhibition

On 19 June the Manchester Modernist Society is launching ManModSoc – a wide-ranging exhibition of archive and contemporary photos of the city’s C20 urban fabric.

The exhibition is divided into four parts – Hulme, Manchester 60s & 70s, Sacred Suburbs and Mooch – and is the culmination of a year-long programme of volunteer-led activities by the Society.

Hulme: When the Crescents were new and Manchester: 60s & 70s will both display archive images from the Manchester Metropolitan University Visual Resource Centre. For Sacred Suburbs researchers Angela Connelly and Matthew Steele have selected archive photos of the city’s post-war places of worship.

Mooch is the contemporary section, featuring the work of Stephen Marland as part of his ongoing ‘mission to photograph the vernacular and the unspectacular’ around Greater Manchester.

The exhibition will be split across two venues:

• ManModSoc (Venue 1) will run from 19-26 June at Hodder+Partners, SGI Studios, 1 Kelso Place, Manchester M15 4LE; opening hours 10am-6pm (closed Sunday).
• Mooch (Venue 2) will run from 19 June to 4 July at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester (cafe), Boyle Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8UW. Opening hours are 10am-4.30pm. (Please note that there is an admission fee to the museum.)
