Thanks to campaigning work by C20 SW, the Reel Cinema in Plymouth has been designated an Asset of Community Value. The decision by Plymouth City Council follows an unsuccessful application for the building to be listed. The 1930s cinema is currently threatened by demolition amidst plans to redevelop the site.
Designation as an Asset of Community Value means the local community have the ability to bid to purchase the building if the current occupier decides to sell it on the open market.
More information about the campaign, the building’s history, and its new status can be found in an article by the Plymouth Herald.
