Jubilee Pool in Penzance damaged by storms

Martin Nixon, Chair of the Friends of Jubilee Pool in Penzance, reports that the pool was a victim of the recent storms and as a result it has suffered serious structural damage, as you can see in the images above.  The Friends of Jubilee Pool are meeting with the owners, Cornwall council, later this week to discuss the future of the pool.

They are confident that the council recognise the building’s importance, both as an amenity for locals and visitors to Penzance and as a modernist building of significant national importance. That said, there is a danger that the pool is at risk unless funding can be sought, and ever- dwindling council budgets may result in the council not being able to continue funding the operation. The Friends of Jubilee Pool hope that a funding package can be established and have been delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response from the public who wish to see the pool restored.

Lido fans who would like to support their efforts can join the group: Friends of Jubilee Pool-Membership Form or like their Facebook Friends page . You might also like to take a look at this article by Martin Nixon outlining the potential threat and how to build a sustainable future for the pool. They would be very grateful for your support, not least because they now urgently need to  demonstrate to Cornwall Council the depth of affection for the pool on a national level.
