Postmodernism with Twentieth Century Society – Tuesday 23rd May
Some critics argued that Number One Poultry was outdated before the building was complete in 1997. At only 20 years old, Number One Poultry has now been listed prematurely in the wake of a renewed interest in postmodern buildings. However, other postmodern buildings remain at risk and C20 Society is concerned. Hear from director of C20 Society, Catherine Croft, and the architects of some of these buildings and why they should not only be protected but celebrated, including Peter Jenkins and CZWG Architects.
The discussion will also delve deeper into Number One Poultry through a new book edited by Marco Iuliano, ‘One Poultry Speaks’, a collaboration between RIBA and Liverpool University Press. The book contains conversations with Peter Palumbo, Michael Wilford, Laurence Bain, Peter Rees and Charles Jencks, hear some of these conversations recounted on the evening by speakers including Charles Jencks and Laurence Bain.
