What’s on in July and August 2018: the best C20 architecture, art and design

Our summer round-up takes us from the dizzying heights of aerial images to the extraordinary lives and work of female artists Frida Kahlo, Corita Kent and the multi-talented Enid Marx.

Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up
V&A, London, until 4 November

A rare chance to see clothing and personal artefacts that belonged to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907–54). As well as glorious fabrics in silk and cotton, the display includes cosmetics, a corset and even a prosthetic leg (and boot). (Sponsored by Grosvenor Britain and Ireland) More

Enid Marx: Print, Pattern and Popular Art

The wide-ranging career of pioneering designer Enid Marx is celebrated in this exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of her death. On display are her fabrics for London Underground, textiles for the wartime Utility Furniture Scheme, postage stamps and book covers for the King Penguin series. More

Aftermath Art in the Wake of World War One

An artist, educator and nun, American Corita Kent (1918–86) tackled the politics and social issues of the turbulent 1960s with her colourful screen-printed banners and posters. More

Lucie Rie: Ceramics & Buttons
Centre of Ceramic Art, York Art Gallery, until 12 May 2019

Celebrated for her domestic ceramics, Dame Lucie Rie (1902–95) was also involved in producing beautiful ceramic buttons for the fashion industry during WWII. The exhibition also features work by her contemporaries Bernard Leach and Hans Coper. More
