Just heard from Miles Glendinning (co author with Stefan Muthesius of TOWER BLOCK: Modem Public Housing in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) that this book is now available as a free PDF to download at  http://fields.eca.ac.uk/gis/TowerBlock.pdf .    Its a really great book—I am amazed that it was published as long ago as 1994—with excellent information and anaysis of the politics and economics that resulted in the rapid spread of pretty poor tower blocks as well as architicturally distinguished ones– predominating over design critique.    It’s over £180 second hand on Amazon, so this makes it accessible in a way its not been for ages—worth checking it out.
