Concrete and Colchester

If you liked the work of  Pallot and Collins which we featured in our last magazine, why not go to this lecture at the new firstsite gallery in Colchester this Thursday?   It’s been organised especially to to celebrate the restoration and re-siting of their three concrete panels in the town, and it’s being given by Dr Lynn Pearson, who has been a great collaborator with C20, doing talks for us, and working with us on casework.   I’m hoping that Lynn, or Gordon and Ursula Bowyers (who contacted me to fill me in on how they had commissioned these artists for the Festival of Britain and worked extensively with them afterwards) will be able to help me with a query that I’ve had from the Harlow Society, wanting to know if a decorative panel in the Harlow branch of British Home Stores is by Collins & Pallot.  It’s a  panel  of wood construction with references to local places and industries and as the store was completed in the early 1980’s as part of the Frederick Gibberd designed Harvey Centre  it seems likely that it is of that date too.    It’s always good when the Magazine generates more research and brings unexpected things to light.

Here are the details for the talk:  http://www.firstsite.uk.net/page/concrete-and-colchester
