EH advice note on post-1945 landscapes

English Heritage have just published a Landscape Advice Note listing notable example of designed landscapes dating from 1945 from the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England. The Register  identifies ornamental and recreational landscapes of national importance from every historic era up to 30 years ago and currently includes 50 notable designs dating from 1945 to 1980. This represents three per cent of register entries. Many more registered historic parks and gardens include post 1945 design.

The criteria for registration include sites which were influential in the development of taste, early or representative examples of a style or a particular designer, and sites associated with significant people or historic events. Landscapes illustrated include St Catherine’s College, the Barbican and Dartington Hall.
