Last year’s Harry Page photography award was won by Joe Brennan for his striking black and white image of the Parco della Musica, and he was presented with his award by Nevil Hopkins at the end of the autumn lecture series. Judge Tim McCoy-Page said of the image:
“Black and white photography works so well in architectural photography, particularly when there is such contract between the even-ness of the building material hue and that of the darker areas. Symmetry, where appropriate in a building, is also very pleasing because this accentuates the design element of the architecture. This photograph has both, and they work splendidly together to push out the scale of the building alongside the impressive design of it. Added to this is the “everyday” nature of the photograph with the people milling about – everyday, yet so well composed and controlled.”
The competition was set up in memory of Harry Page, a long-time Twentieth Century Society member, film maker and keen events photographer who died in 2012.
This year’s competition is now open to all members, and is awarded for the best photograph of a building or architectural detail from our period (buildings completed from 1914 onwards). If you are a keen photographer – whether a serious semi professional, or just a C20 architecture fan with a camera in your pocket – do start thinking about what you might like to enter as you are out and about over the summer.
There is a limit of 25 entries per person, colour or black and white, and you must be a C20 member. You can now enter photographs by email or post as well as on our Flickr site, as follows:
