15. Ripaults Factory, Enfield, London
Status: Listed Grade II
Architect: A H Durnford
Location: Southbury Road, Enfield, London
A 1930s Art Deco factory in Southbury Road designed by A.H. Durnford for the Ripaults firm who made automotive electrical cables and components. It is a symmetrical block, of two storeys to centre with one storey wings to left and right. It was listed Grade II in 1988.
An application for listed building consent to demolish was made, which was refused by Enfield Council.
Developers appealed and a Public Inquiry was held at which the C20 Society gave evidence supporting the correctness of the listing decision.
The façade was retained, in line with our advice, and the rear part of the building redeveloped.
