This year’s AGM will now be held at High Cross House, Dartington, on 30 March (note the change of date) and will begin at 2.30pm with the usual business. We are looking for new members to join our small committee and take on defined tasks. We ask for members to commit to attend a meeting in the south west once every three months (which is planned around a lunch and social gathering). We are particularly looking for a new secretary.
There will be chance for delegates to look around the Dartington estate in the morning and plenty of options for lunch. High Cross House is about to undergo renovations masterminded by architects and master-planners Purcell. We will be showing a presentation of their plans for this important modernist house, one of the most significant examples of the International Style in this country. It was built in 1932 for the headmaster of Dartington School to designs by William Lescaze. It is Grade II* listed. We hope to see you there, and if you are thinking of coming it would be helpful if you could let Tony Stokoe know to help us manage numbers.
We are still planning our events for the rest of the year – look out for more news here or via Facebook and Twitter – including:
2019 weekender
Plans are already coming together for this year’s weekend trip. After experiencing awful weather at our weekender in the last two years, we will be moving it to September. We are hoping to visit Plymouth and its environs with a mixture of presentations and tours. Watch this space for updates.
Devon churches
Also in the planning is a day travelling through Devon looking at C20 Churches, to be lead by Robert Drake.
Past events
Our weekend in Newquay and the North Cornwall Coast in October 2018 was very successful, if a little windy! Thank you to all who came. A write up of the weekend will be available shortly on our website and will feature in the next C20 magazine. The notes from the weekend are also available on our website, so if you missed out then, why not take yourself on a guided tour?
In November we teamed up with Plymouth Arts Centre for a screening of the highly-acclaimed New Town Utopia. We were pleased to see a packed auditorium and are hoping to make a C20 SW film night a regular occurrence. If you missed the screening the film is now available on the BFI website.
