Event: Four Twentieth Century Pubs

Join the architectural historian Elain Harwood on a tour of C20 pubs in Nottingham. Elain has identified four pubs of interest which can be found within walking distance of the city centre.

The tour begins at the Newshouse on Canal Street (built 1963–4), goes on to take in two 1960s pubs in Sneinton – The Wheatsheaf (by Cecil Howitt) and The Queen Adelaide – and will finish at the March Hare on Carlton Road, designed by A. E. Eberlin in 1958. Here, Elain was pleased to discover that this final pub is still owned by the same family which built it!

Open to members and non-members of the Twentieth Century Society. The event is free but as the Twentieth Century Society is a charitable organisation we can accept donations.

Elain Harwood is the author of Space, Hope & Brutalism and the Nottingham Pevsner Architectural Guide.

Look forward to seeing you there!
