I am pleased to confirm the first ‘Scouting Visit’ of the newly formed C20th WM Regional Group: Coventry-based member Vanessa Oakes has arranged for a special opening of Goldfinger’s office block for Carr’s Papers in Solihull, on the 11th October at 2.30pm ( apologies but weekends were not possible).
This building (considered to be a mature work of the architect), is now back on the market, empty, and though listed could well undergo further transformation. So, this may well be the last chance to see it in its ‘near’ original form. We will be guided around by one of the sales agents.
The form for the ‘Scouting Visits’ is informal, the idea being to familiarise ourselves with the ‘unknown’ ( to Members at least); and to share what we know ( and what we don’t) in a social atmosphere. Tours are arranged by members, but led collectively, and there will be no architectural notes, beyond these online resources:

We will make our own way there, arriving outside the office block no later than 2.15 pm . The street address is: Ashbourne way, Solihull, West Midlands, B90 4NE. Parking seems to be opposite or next door. Our visit will take approximately 45 mins.
I am currently exploring the option to see a 1960s chapel, recommended by another C20th member, at the Solihull School, afterwards. But this is not yet confirmed. In either case, our Scouting Visit will be concluded easily by 5pm.
For those craving even more C20th stimulation, what better way to round off the day than by attending the fabulous City of London Sinfonia’s concert of Faure’s Requiem at the glorious Coventry Cathedral, with an option for an early evening drink before hand. Click for information and tickets for the concert.
Please let me know if you are planning to attend our Goldfinger visit so I can let the agent know how many people to expect. Vanessa and I look forward to seeing you
