The C20 West Group held its second AGM at the house of a Group Member in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Their modernist town house was completed in 2007 and members were interested to learn how the constraints of the tight site had led to the unusual design. The eclectic furniture, fittings and collections, many from the 1950s, were also enjoyed.
A walk through Chippenham followed with discussions on the good, bad and indifferent 20th century change. A highlight was a visit to the Swindon and Wiltshire History Centre completed in October 2006. The building is a concrete and glass construction, covering 4,000 square metres on two floors and houses 30,000 boxes of archive material. Our guide explained the wide range of services carried out from the centre and praised the flexibility of the building.
