In the now-enclosed entrance of the most westerly block of the College Bank Flats, Mitchell Hey, is the only survivor of six original works at the flats. Each of the open entrances in all but one of the seven tower blocks housed a different full-height three-dimensional mural, provided by the council and designed by lecturers from Rochdale College of Art. All six murals survived until around 1995, when the residents were asked to vote on whether or not to keep them. Five out of six blocks voted to have them removed, but this one remains.
