The murals at Tottenham Court Road underground station are amongst the most celebrated public art in London. They cover 950 sq metres on the Northern and Central line platforms and interconnecting spaces. While the mosaic arches over the escalators were demolished as part of the 2015 works to upgrade the station for the Elizabeth Line, the original Oxford Street entrance panel was conserved and relocated on site and the platform level mosaics were retained albeit with sizable areas replicated in modern glass. Fragments of the demolished mosaic arches were sent Edinburgh College of Art to be reassembled and used for conservation training.
