Saltdean Lido upgraded

This much-loved local lido has had its listing upgraded to Grade II* after a spirited campaign.

The Save Saltdean Lido Campaign are celebrating the success of their applicaton to English Heritage to upgrade its listing status to Grade II*, making it the first Grade II* listed lido in the country.  It is one of only three seaside lidos still in use and has been commended for its architectural interest and rarity.

Rebecca Crook, Chairperson of the Campaign said: ‘We couldn’t be happier that this iconic building situated in the centre of our community now has the architectural and heritage recognition that it deserves.  It’s a wonderful building that we feel represents an important part of our British seaside heritage and we hope that with the new listing in place it can be preserved and safeguarded for many more generations to enjoy.’
