Location: Penarth, Wales

This rectangular ceramic mural of 8 metres long by 1.4 metres is a tribute to the golden age for occupational medicine in Wales. The contribution of the Pneumoconiosis Research Unit in making the local mining industry safer is depicted by Michael Edmonds on a typically Welsh landscape background. The artist describes colourfully the use of water to prevent lung diseases and the doctors treating the mining community. The mural has been neglected for some time and has suffered from the addition of some pipework across it’s centre. It is hoped that the mural will soon be given more prominence as part of a new Breast Cancer Clinic.
