Saltdean’s elegant lido, the first lido to ever be listed in the UK, has now become the first to be graded at II*, putting it in the top 5% of all listed buildings.
The Society have been working with the Save Saltdean Lido group to get the building upgraded for over a year and on Friday, DCMS made their decision public.
The Society has long regarded all surviving lidos in the UK as significant pieces of archtiectural and cultural history. Many have been lost and others, including Saltdean need a new lease of life. Saltdean’s future is looking better now however – let’s hope this upgrade is the first step towards a new chapter in it’s history.
