Event: Along the Mersey south bank

A Wirralside walk led by Terry Edgar on Friday, October  4, 2013

We will set off from Birkenhead to explore the Wirralside bank of the Mersey for C20 architecture. We shall see the spectacular Liverpool skyline. We’re sure to admire Rowse’s monumental brick Mersey Tunnel ventilation tower and we hope to visit the interior of Briggs Wolstenholme & Thornely’s 1914-20 Town Hall: dramatically Beaux Arts classical with neo-grec detailing beneath a very odd empty tower and its Halicarnassus pyramid. Our walk is on a Friday so that we can access the town hall on a weekday. Wear sensible footwear. Cost: £5
