This sizeable ceramic mural – measuring 27ft x 20ft was commissioned in the late fifties by the architecture department of the Cooperative Wholesale Society Limited. Designed by G Bajio, a Hungarian artist, it is one of a number of public art works which formed part of the original plan for Stevenage town centre. The mural reflects the spirit of the Co-operative Movement, depicting a balanced economy: industry, transport, agriculture and commerce.
